Subject: Welcome to the 2026 Hornets Box Lacrosse Season!
Hornets Families,
Good Day — and welcome to a new season of Hornets Box Lacrosse!
My name is Larry Wright, and I am honoured to serve as your newly elected President of the Calgary Hornets Board of Directors. As we head into 2026, I’m excited about the work that has already been done — and the momentum building within our association.
If 2025 was exciting, 2026 has the potential to be even stronger!
Player & Coach Development
One of our key focuses this offseason has been structured player and coach development. Our goal is simple: over time, elevate skill levels across all age groups and divisions while strengthening the experience for everyone involved.
Players
This offseason, we offered both Intermediate (B & C levels) and Advanced (A level) training sessions focused on stick skills, speed, and lacrosse IQ. These sessions emphasized repetition and game-realistic drills — similar to the structured development models offered through Lacrosse Canada camps. The response has been extremely positive, and we are actively working on expanding development opportunities as the season progresses. Stay tuned for more details.
Coaches
Strong players require supported coaches.
Last season, we introduced the CoachThem platform in partnership with Elev8 Lacrosse to assist with practice planning, drill design, organization, and communication. After seeing the benefits firsthand, we have committed to continuing the platform this season.
In addition, we are working with Elev8 Lacrosse to enhance coaching skillsets across experience levels. If you have experience in high-level sport but are new to lacrosse, we encourage you to consider joining our coaching group — particularly at the younger ages where foundational development is critical.
A sincere thank you to Coach Director Jordan Boissy, Player & Coach Development Director Devan Wray, and all coaches who contributed to offseason training. Your time and leadership make a difference.
Tournaments & Community
These tournaments are cornerstones of our association and would not be possible without Tournament Director Christina Lee, Division Coordinator Lead Shandelle Thomas, and their incredible volunteer teams. Thank you for your continued leadership.
Volunteer Opportunities
As always, the Hornets thrive because of volunteer support.
We have opportunities available through:
If you are interested in contributing, please reach out to your Division Coordinator. They will connect you with the appropriate lead. There is meaningful work to be done, and being involved in shaping your player’s experience is both impactful and rewarding.
Looking Ahead
As we begin the season, our leadership team is committed to delivering a fun, competitive, and organized experience for your family — and most importantly, your player. There is still work underway, including website updates and adapting to new Lacrosse Canada rule changes. We will continue communicating as those updates are finalized.
Thank you for being part of the Hornets community. I look forward to seeing you in the stands and watching our players compete on the floor.
Here’s to a great season ahead!
